Finding Balance at the Autumn Equinox

by Suzanne @ SuZen Yoga

Autumn is my favourite time of year. Everything changes colour and the nights grow longer. The pace of life seems to soften as nature exhales — a gentle reminder that change can be beautiful when we flow with it.

It is for this reason that I decided to run my Autumn Equinox Mini Retreat at The Loft Studio — a morning of movement, stillness and reflection. A moment to pause, to honour the change in the season and to find a little balance between light and dark, both in nature and within ourselves.

Equinox is Latin for “equal night” — the time when day and night are of equal length. It reminds us to pause, breathe and turn inward — to rest a little more, to reflect and to gather our inner strength for the coming winter months.

Autumn is the season of release — like the trees, we are invited to let go of what no longer serves us. It is also the season of gratitude, inviting us to pause and honour how we have grown and all that we have learned through the year so far.

The retreat began with cacao to open the heart, moved through gentle, grounding yoga and came to rest with a guided relaxation beneath the trees. A beautiful community came together and everyone left floating home in pure autumn bliss.

After the retreat, I was deeply moved by the kind feedback shared:

“10/10 — amazing, can’t wait for the next one.”
“The cacao was divine.”

And one that truly stayed with me:

“I’ve been Zenned by SuZen."
Not been that zen in a long time, if ever.”

It means so much to know that this practice continues to ripple beyond the mat — that a shared morning of movement and stillness can bring a sense of balance and peace that gently lingers on.
